Längst pågående Series of Poker-turneringar

This title is held by the World Series of Poker (WSOP), as it was established in 1970. The event has become an annual tradition and is the most prestigious tournament in poker.

Its main event consistently has a hefty prize pool, which has stayed above $50 million since 2005, except for 2020 and 2021 due to Covid. But despite how grand it has become, the World Series of Poker’s beginning was humble. It all started in a hotel in Reno, where only a few players competed at a cash game with the players voting for the best. The winner of the first-ever WSOP was Johnny Moss, who earned a silver cup and the title of first World Champion of Poker as a prize.

In the 2018 World Series of Poker main event, Tony Miles and John Cynn faced off in the most prolonged heads-up battle in WSOP history. The two poker pros played pokerhänder for over 10 hours, with Cynn ultimately emerging as the winner of $8.8 million.

The event, known as The Big One for One Drop, was created in 2012 by Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque du Soleil. $111,111 from each $1 million buy-in was used to fund clean water access in impoverished countries.

The first-ever Big One for One Drop was held at the 2012 WSOP, with $48 million in prizes up for grabs. Antonio Esfandiari walked away with the top prize of $18 million and a unique platinum bracelet. Although not a yearly event, it has since been held in 2014 and 2018, offering an impressive payout for the winner.

This record is related to the previous one. The legendary Antonio Esfandiari won the largest single prize payout in poker at The Big One for One Drop event. He took home $18 million from a $1 million buy-in at the 2012 WSOP, the biggest win in poker history, and is still an impressive feat today.

In addition to his winnings, he has also become a three-time bracelet winner, with both wins coming from WSOP events. His first was for a $2,000 Pot Limit Holdem event in 2004. The second was from The Big One for One Drop in 2012. His third is from a €1,100 No-Limit Holdem event in the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe.

Some, however, say that this record should go to Bryn Kenny, as he won a staggering $20 million at the 2019 Triton Super High Roller Series – Triton Million. Or rather, he won it through a split deal with Aaron Zang. Kenny got the bigger prize but settled for second place, while Zang got the honor of being first at the cost of a smaller prize of $16.2 million.

As previously said, the WSOP has consistently garnered more than $50 million in the prize pool for two years short of two decades. In those past years, the WSOP set the record of a whopping $82 million in prize money in 2006. A total of 8,773 players competed in the main event that year, where Jamie Gold won the first prize of $12 million.
